Introduction

Ateljé was growing quickly as a brand, but their digital presence wasn’t keeping pace. Built on a standard Shopify theme, the website no longer reflected the brand’s playful personality or its ambitions for the future. Known for colorful phone cases with distinctive cords, Ateljé sits at the intersection of fashion and function. The challenge was to translate that bold, expressive identity into a digital experience that feels just as vibrant, while supporting a growing and increasingly complex product range.

Create a new e-commerce experience that captures Ateljé’s colourfulness and playfulness, without losing sight of clarity and conversion. With an expanding assortment of products, navigation and product discovery needed to be intuitive, while still leaving room for storytelling, customisation and moments of fun.

Ateljé’s products are fun and expressive, but ultimately practical. The digital design needed to reflect that balance. We designed a clean, app like interface that feels light and intuitive, using playful details where they add character without overwhelming the shopping experience. Community content and UGC were woven throughout the site to reinforce the brand’s close relationship with its audience.

Navigation became a key design focus. With a wide range of products that share similar forms, visual cues were essential to help users quickly understand what they could shop. We introduced a structured yet highly scannable navigation system that uses imagery and colour to differentiate categories, making exploration feel effortless.

Upselling without pressure

Raising their AOV was an important goal, but it needed to feel natural. We introduced contextual upselling and cross-selling moments, such as “shop the look” sections, mix-and-match suggestions for cases and cords, and complementary add-ons like screen protectors. Each moment was carefully designed to feel helpful rather than pushy, blending seamlessly into the browsing flow.

Colour is central to Ateljé’s identity. To give the brand flexibility and speed, we designed a system of four interchangeable colour themes. Each theme applies consistently across the site, allowing the visual mood to shift easily with new collections while maintaining structural consistency.

Storytelling moments were introduced throughout the site, from collection presentations to sustainability messaging and editorial content. These touchpoints reinforce the brand’s values and create a sense of closeness between Ateljé and its audience.
